Nocturnal Adventures

Polar bear sleepingWhen can I schedule a Nocturnal Adventure from my group?
The Nocturnal Adventures program is available Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in March, April, May, October and November. (Mondays are also available in May due to the high May demand.)

What dates are available for the Nocturnal Adventures?
Please check our online calendar to see the open dates for our Nocturnal Adventures. (The dates shown are the dates of your overnight. The following day would be your Zoo fieldtrip.)

Once your group has decided on a date, click on the date on the online calendar and submit the requested information. You will then receive a contract and invoice. (Until you have received your contract via email, you are not reserved for the overnight adventure.)

Will it just be my group on the night of the Nocturnal Adventure?
Please note that the maximum number of participants for the evening is 100. If your group is less than 100, there could be another group joining you. Also, our program must have at least 65 participants for the evening to run. If your group is less than 65 people or we have less than 65 people for the evening, we will have to cancel the date of the overnight. (Please note that we will know at least 30 days prior to the evening if there must be a cancellation.) If you have any questions, please include them in your email when you request your date.

How much does a Nocturnal Adventure cost?
The overnight program fee is $40 per child and $25 per all adult chaperone. (Adult chaperones are considered any teacher, parent, or chaperone attending with any child.) Your program fees include Zoo and White River Gardens admission, parking fees, activities, spending the night at the Zoo and a breakfast buffet.  We require a $100 non-refundable deposit within seven days of receiving your contract. The remainder of the payment is due in full thirty (30) days prior to the scheduled overnight date.

Where do groups sleep?
Groups sleep on the floor in the Dolphin Gallery or Oceans. The Dolphin Gallery is the large room that leads into the dome, but no one is allowed to sleep in the dome. The Oceans building houses sharks, penguins, seals, sea lions, sea horses, eels, fish, and jellies. The area of the building you could be sleeping in has a thin layer of carpet. There are bathroom facilities inside the buildings, but there are no showers available. The Zoo reserves the right to change your sleeping area as necessary.

What do I need to bring?
Each participant needs to bring a sleeping bag and pillow, as well as any toiletries and clothes for the next day. Participants may bring air mattresses or small fold up cots if they choose, but please remember that each participant must carry their belongings to and from their sleeping area. Electrical outlets are available for use while you inflate your mattress. The buildings are heated in the winter and air conditioned in the summer; choose your bedding appropriately. Also, your group is responsible for bringing a snack for your overnight trip.

What happens during the overnight?
Your group will rotate through three activity sessions during the evening. Each 30 minute session will have approximately 30 participants
