We Come from the Land Down Under
During the Summer of 2008 the Indianapolis Zoo will be treated to visitors from the “Land Down Under.” Two Queensland Koalas will be on exhibit at the Zoo from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend. This temporary exhibit - Koala presented by Citizens Gas - will be located in the Forests Biome between the Amur tigers and the Kodiak bears.
This will be the third visit of koalas to Indianapolis. The first was in 1986 at the old zoo in Washington Park, and the second visit was at our current White River State Park location during the summer of 1994. The San Diego Zoo will once again be temporarily loaning us two male koalas. In addition to the koalas there will be an Australian finch aviary featuring colorful Gouldian finches, owl finches and shaft tails. Also on exhibit will be White’s tree frogs, bearded dragons and a carpet python, all adding to this sample of an authentic slice of life in the Aussie outback.
