Both the Indianapolis Zoo and White River Gardens are wheelchair accessible. Look for ramps inside the Zoo grounds by the overlook at the Plains yard, on the platform for giraffe feeding, and leading into the Dolphin Adventure Pavilion. At the Gardens, look for the ramp into the Schaefer Rotunda entrance, the ramp from the Rotunda up to the main floor, and the elevator in the alcove adjacent to the Gardens box office. There are accessible doors on buildings throughout the grounds, as well as accessible rest rooms and water fountains. As a courtesy to other guests with disabilities, if you turn the switch on a door opener off in order to hold a door open, please turn it back on when you are finished. Please report any non-working door to any available staff member. Wheelchair seating is available in the Marsh Dolphin Adventure Theater for the daily dolphin shows. Please check with attendants if you need assistance. Handicapped parking for both cars and vans is available at the front the Zoo parking lot. On exceptionally busy days, please be aware that parking may be limited. Wheelchair and Cart Rentals There are a limited number of wheelchairs for rent at $6 each. There are also six electric carts for rent at $25 each. Come to the stroller rental counter immediately inside the Zoo entrance. First come, first served. First Aid Contact any staff member in an emergency or non-emergency situation. All of our security staff are trained First Responders and can assist. White River Gardens was honored in 2001 when the Mayor’s Advisory Council presented it with its Accessibility Award.
