The Indianapolis Zoo is
seeking applicants for seasonal exhibit greeters for the birds and
butterflies exhibits. If you have a background in customer service, enjoy
working around birds/butterflies and with the public, working as an exhibit
greeter could be the job you’ve been looking for! Whether you are a student
looking for a job, or a retiree who wants to keep active, the Zoo offers a
great working environment.
Job duties:
As a greeter, one of the most important jobs would be to monitor the
aviary/conservatory doors, act to protect our collection and ensure that
safety procedures are being followed in all areas of the exhibit.
Depending on the area assigned, duties could include handing out nectar cups
and bird food to guests, monitoring the entrances and exits of the
aviaries/conservatory, answering questions, giving directions and helping to
keep the exhibit clean. You will be working outside in all types of weather,
and standing for long periods. You must be comfortable working in an exhibit
with a large number of free flying birds/butterflies, and having
birds/butterflies landing on your body.
Exhibit greeters will work from mid-March through Nov. 1. Due to the
unpredictability of weather and crowd size, schedules may vary. The
Zoo is open seven days a week, and scheduling will include weekends and
holidays.
These hourly positions pay $7.75 per hour.
Qualifications:
• Must have an enthusiastic attitude, cooperative manner and
outstanding customer service skills.
• High school diploma or GED is required.
