Exhibit Greeters — Birds/Butterflies

ButterflyonGirl-CoryWilsonThe Indianapolis Zoo is seeking applicants for seasonal exhibit greeters for the birds and butterflies exhibits. If you have a background in customer service, enjoy working around birds/butterflies and with the public, working as an exhibit greeter could be the job you’ve been looking for! Whether you are a student looking for a job, or a retiree who wants to keep active, the Zoo offers a great working environment.

Job duties:
As a greeter, one of the most important jobs would be to monitor the aviary/conservatory doors, act to protect our collection and ensure that safety procedures are being followed in all areas of the exhibit.

Depending on the area assigned, duties could include handing out nectar cups and bird food to guests, monitoring the entrances and exits of the aviaries/conservatory, answering questions, giving directions and helping to keep the exhibit clean. You will be working outside in all types of weather, and standing for long periods. You must be comfortable working in an exhibit with a large number of free flying birds/butterflies, and having birds/butterflies landing on your body.

Exhibit greeters will work from mid-March through Nov. 1. Due to the unpredictability of weather and crowd size, schedules may vary. The Zoo is open seven days a week, and scheduling will include weekends and holidays. These hourly positions pay $7.75 per hour.

Qualifications:
•  Must have an enthusiastic attitude, cooperative manner and outstanding customer service skills.
•  High school diploma or GED is required.

ONLY ONLINE APPLICATIONS ARE ACCEPTED (see below). Candidates are encouraged to attach cover letters and resumes. Mailed, faxed and hand-delivered applications will not be considered. No phone calls please. On the online employment application, please enter “Exhibit Greeter” in the ‘position desired’ section. Application deadline is Feb. 10, 2013.

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of pre-employment testing including a drug test, driving record and criminal history checks. The Indianapolis Zoo is a drug free/smoke free workplace and an equal opportunity employer.
