Seasonal Keepers — Birds/Butterflies
The Indianapolis Zoo is seeking applicants for Seasonal Keepers —
Birds/Butterflies. Positions will work with a variety of species, conducting
formal and informal presentation to the general public throughout the day,
as well as helping with special projects.
Job duties:
Applicants must display a professional attitude and appearance to both
visitors and co-workers. Position will require a great deal of interaction
with the general public, requiring good public speaking skills and the
ability to provide outstanding customer service. Must be temperamentally
suited to work with the public as well as a variety of bird/butterfly
species.
Will perform manual work involving the care and maintenance of the animals
and exhibits under his/her care. Directly responsible for the health and
well being of the collections assigned to his/her care. Must be
safety-oriented and adhere to safety protocols.
Candidate will also be expected to complete daily and weekly reports;
participate in chats, feeds and behind-the-scene tours; and follow all
policies and procedures of the Indianapolis Zoo. This position will be
required to work mandatory overtime, weekends and holidays.
This position pays $8.00 per hour.
Qualifications:
• Must have experience working in animal care.
Bird/butterfly experience is preferred, but not required.
• Must have strong observational skills.
• Must be team oriented with excellent communication skills.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor degree from
an accredited college/university in life sciences strongly preferred.
