Conservation Connection: Scavenger Hunt Promotes Conservation

Hidden Heroes photo.jpgSo many of our staff and guests got into the “Find the Mistletoe” game on Zoo grounds during Christmas at the Zoo that it proved to be a favorite for everyone. Come on. Admit it. Who doesn’t love a good game or puzzle? Well, now the Zoo has taken it up a notch. In preparation for the 2012 Indianapolis Prize, the world’s leading award for animal conservation that will be awarded in September, we’ve created a game called “Hidden Heroes.” The game reveals some of the animals being saved by the six Indianapolis Prize finalists - conservation heroes  who work every day to preserve some of the most endangered animals on the planet.

The game’s objective is to “help people better understand the work these amazing conservationists are doing around the world,” states Angela McColgin, Visitor Program Specialist, who helped create the game. It’s geared toward families. “There is something for everyone in Hidden Heroes, and it helps if family members work as a team,” adds McColgin.

Visitors play the game by looking for hidden symbols around the Zoo to discover the missing letters in the puzzle. The Hidden Heroes game card can be found in the map insert at the front gate. The first card features clues that can be found in Oceans, Forests, and Encounters. The next card is due to come out in mid-July and will focus on the other three finalists and their work. So be on the look-out!
There are also some prize pack drawings if you solve the puzzle featuring some fun items from our gift shop like plush animals, books, water bottles, etc. When asked about some clues to help us solve the puzzle, McColgin said, “Look everywhere. Even on the ceiling!”

So try your turn at playing the “Hidden Heroes” game!
